59Sixty Dinner Buffet @ Komtar Penang

Henry Tan | 4:11 PM | |
Hello! Finally we got the chance to visit to 59Sixty for their dinner buffet at Komtar Penang! Previously we heard quite some bad feedback but definitely not the same anymore especially after they revamped again from head to toe! Like the name suggest, it is located at Level 59 and 60 at Komtar Penang. We parked our car in Komtar multilevel car park, the one that right opposite Maybank. Do take note that it costs RM1 per hour and they will turn off the car park light after 10.30pm, which is quite eerie if you are alone. >.<

59Sixty - Thankfully the rain stopped!
It was a rainy Friday evening, but luckily we departed early and managed to skip the traffic jam. We went up to 59Sixty thru the entrance beside Maybank. No worry as there are receptionist and waitress to guide you to the lift to go up. Once we entered, we were welcomed by the breath taking view of Penang that you can't wait to take photos next to the window!

59Sixty - The sky cleared up!
59Sixty - The magnificent view of Penang
59Sixty's restaurant located at level 59 has a seating capacity of 450. It is designed along Mediterranean theme that offers a glorious buffet spread that serves both local and International cuisine, including Chinese, Nyonya, Western, Middle Eastern, Japanese and seafood delicacies. It was our pleasure to have Chef Jason to do the introduction for us.

59Sixty - Introduction by Chef Jason
The restaurant is quite big with 360 degree panoramas of the city that enables the guests to enjoy the meal while overlooking the whole island. A level above at 60, it is all about comfort and pleasure. 59Sixty provides meeting area, wine and cigar bar as well!

At 59Sixty restaurant, we actually walk around, literally, a round, for different food selection. We started off with the open kitchen section whereby you can make your order and the chef cook immediately for you.

59Sixty - Open kitchen section for seafood
Unlike those typical buffet dinner, I was fascinated by the seafood section of 59Sixty. All you need to do is to tell the chef type of seafood you want and cook with what kind of sauce. For a crab lover like me, of course I would order one too! How often do you find Kam Heong Fried Crab in a buffet right?

59Sixty - My Kam Heong crab!
59Sixty - One whole salmon!
Different from the usual buffet, 59Sixty serves one whole big salmon fish instead of lamb or beef. For a salmon lover like darling, this is definitely a thumbs up! Besides, there are sushi at the Japanese section as well! So again, darling would be attacking on their salmon sashimi.

59Sixty - Japanese section
59Sixty - Cold cuts and salad section

59Sixty - Seafood section
For a seafood lover like me, this section is where you will see me digging in! Fresh oyster, scallop, prawns and lobster all on top of ice, I can take a full plate of each!

Here come the main dishes! I gotta be honest, most of their main dishes are not those common ones that you will find in any other buffet! Forget about curry, rendang, masak merah or whatever local style, 59Sixty serves more towards western style!

To make your meal a complete one, dessert is a must for the ending. 59Sixty got a big section for that as well. From cakes to muffins, even their chocolate fondue is using white chocolate!

Sinful after all the heavy meals? Don't worry, you can find whatever fruits you want here! 59Sixty serves longan and dragon fruit too!

59Sixty was very thoughtful to reserve our seats with name card! You know when you are paying for the premium price, you would want to expect for the premium service! And one thing for sure, their waiter and waitress are well trained after the revamped!

Okay enough with the introduction, let me show you what we ate! :p

As you can see, we took a bit of everything to make sure we cover most of the food! We took both raw and cooked seafood, as well as satay, lamb, chicken and sotong! Most of them are good, surely live up to our expectation! I know it's odd to order Char Koay Teow in a high class restaurant, but hey it tastes so much better at level 59! :p

59Sixty provides a corner for spaghetti as well! And carbonara is our favorite! But if is normal carbonara spaghetti, that would be boring right? So we learned from the guy before us, we went to take all the seafood that we like to add on into our spaghetti! Coincidentally, the chef with the tall hat (sous chef I supposed?) came out and help to prepare my carbonara spaghetti! And hence the professional food presentation as you can see in the photo below!

We truly enjoyed our night with the great food, as well as pairing with the wine too!

After our meal, we moved to Level 60 for their lounge! Live band performance plus some alcohol drinks, that could pretty much sums up a great Friday night after a long week of work! The band is really good as all of them sing really well

Overall, we love the comfy environment, probably the design was inspired by Santorini style with blue and white as the major color. The food definitely above par given the variety, the uniqueness as well as the taste. Another plus point would be their friendly and attentive waitress, they take their initiative to serve even before I asked. So, I think that you should go give it a try at 59Sixty too!
