World Water Day 2016 @ Air Itam Dam, Penang

Henry Tan | 8:45 AM | Be the first to comment!
World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.

In celebration of World Water Day, Water Watch Penang (WWP) and Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) co-organized World Water Day 2016 at Air Itam Dam Penang to increase the awareness on the importance of water conservation.

Is the Super El Nino phenomenon making you crazy? Well, certainly it does to me that I could even sweat while sleeping at night! With such a blazing-hot weather, I believe most of you would have heard that the water level at the dam is running low and it could only last for a month. Thankfully that there are cloud seeding that help to create rain so that the dam still maintain at the same water level.

On World Water Day, people everywhere show that they care and that they have the power to make a difference. They get inspired by information and use it to take action and change things.

Through the event, the participants get to know more about water conservation and, most importantly, how to use water wisely. Given the very little of rainfall and the high rates of evaporation at the dam, it is essential for us to reduce our daily water consumption. With the global climate change, we can no longer take good continuous water supply for granted.

Save Water, Use Water Wisely!!!

The competition which will be held in conjunction with the 9th edition of Kuala Lumpur Trade & Copyright Centre (KLTCC) in concurrent with the annual Kuala Lumpur International Book Fairs, aims to open up opportunities and provides a platform for budding writers to publish their ideas and develop established writers’ intellectual property (IP) into diverse digital media content. The first category, Idea to Publishing promises aspiring writers an opportunity to publish their ideas into a publication with Karangkraf worth up to RM50,000 in value, apart from RM5,000 grand prize from Kota Buku and an international marketing opportunity once their idea is published. The second category, Book to Development targets established writers to turn their publication into diverse digital media contents such as feature film, TV series, animation, digital comics, games, apps and more. The winner of this category will receive a green lane for their application in the FINAS development grant worth up to RM500,000 in value, apart from RM5,000 grand prize from Kota Buku and an international marketing opportunity.

Sayed Munawar Sayed Mustar, CEO of Kota Buku reiterated, "We are aware that there are many undiscovered talented writers out there.
