Around The World Dinner Buffet @ Garden Cafe, Golden Sands Penang

Henry Tan | 10:49 PM | |
It's school holiday! Bring your kids to Garden Cafe at Golden Sands Resort Penang to eat for free on Thursday for their Around The World dinner buffet. It was the first time for baby and I to dine there as we don't usually go all the way to Batu Ferringhi. So if you have kids, then that would probably be the best excuse for you to enjoy good food!

Penang Buffet Dinner Kids Eat FREE!

Every Thursday - 6pm to 10pm
RM98 nett per adult
***One child below 12 years old eats FREE with one paying adult ***

After the entrance of Garden Cafe, we were attracted by the Kids Corner where it is beautifully decorated with cartoon sea creatures. As usual, those cute little dining utensils are available for kids. Their food are much more simple such as sausages, Chicken fingers, spaghetti, fries, jelly pudding, mini cupcakes, ice cream and assorted snacks that kids would love! One thing that I love about Kids Corner at Garden Cafe is the chocolate milk drink. Who doesn't like it right? 😋

After the Kids Corner, there's Salad Section where we can create our own salad. Different type of greens are available to mix and match, such as the bell peppers, cucumbers, capers, olive, pickled cucumber, strawberries and many more. You can also add cheese, crouton, and many different type of dressing. If you are too lazy to do one like me, there are at least 10 different ready-made salads. Some of those noteworthy ones are Lebanese Tabbouleh (sounds like Tak Boleh), Greek Fattouch and Fresh Sliced Cucumber Raita.

As usual, coffee machines and breads are available. But unlike any other hotels, Garden Cafe seems to provide many coffee machines, maybe they understand how important coffee is towards Penangites!

For the Seafood on Ice Section, Garden Cafe offers Prawns, Mussel and Smoked Salmon. The options are quite limited but since the theme is "Around The World", this is just a small part of it. Nevertheless, we had quite a number of prawns, especially for baby, since she doesn't need to get her hand dirty as I did all the peeling. (*cough* good husband material here!)

Then starting with the Hot Pot section which consists of Minestrone Genovese and Szechuan Hot & Sour Soup. After the Seafood on Ice, the next thing you should have of course is a bowl of hot soup, personally, I prefer Szechuan Hot & Sour Soup as it kick starts your appetite! If you prefer something else, Garden Cafe also offers Roti Canai with Fish Curry, Malaysian Chicken Murtabak with Dhal Vegetable Curry or even Malaysian Chinese Char Koay Teow.

Next up, there's a long row of main courses at Garden Cafe with wide selection which include Chicken Cordon Bleu with Remoulade Sauce, Beef Satay, Lamb Chop with Thyme Reduction, Lasagna at Forno, Deep Fried Fish with Sweet & Sour Sauce, Stir Fried Mixed Vegetable with Oyster Sauce, Baked Cauliflower Polonaise & Broccoli Florette, Chinese Squid with Ginger & Onion and Herbal Prawns.

After all the main courses, we had Penang Curry Mee at the Noodle & Pasta Action Station. Some extra ingredients can be added such as bean curd, cooked prawn, fish balls, squid, crab stick and so on. Not the best in Penang, but Garden Cafe certainly make it good enough to fix your craving for Curry Mee.

Next, Garden Cafe also offers 3 varieties of Pizza at the Pizza Station. We didn't want to fill our stomach with pizza so baby and I just shared a piece of it. At the Today Carvery Section, we had Roasted Chicken with Home-grown Garden Rosemary on Bruised Cherry Tomato and also Roasted Beef with Dried Spiced Rubbed on Grilled Pepper and Onion. Both are accompanied with 2 different choices of sauce, namely Black Pepper Reduction and Brown Mushroom Sauce.

Since it is Around The World dinner buffet, Garden Cafe provide Shawarma as well as the Vertical Grilled Section. It is the Egyptian Chicken Shawarma with condiments and Arabian Breads. For most of the Malaysian, we always called it Kebab as it is available in most of the night market. But Chef told us that the actual name is Shawarma in Arab while Kebab is only meant for those skewers with pieces of meat.

For Dessert Section, Garden Cafe presents a wide range as well starting from Banana Bread & Butter Pudding, Cinnamon Apple Strudel, Assorted French Mini Pastries, Freshly Cut Tropical Fruits, Caramelized Orange, Profiteroles with Chocolate, Mango Pudding, Raspberry Pie, Cream Caramel, Chocolate Mousse, Tiramisu and Charlotte Royale.

Even though we are no longer kids with school holiday anymore, but overall, we had a great time there not just dining with the food but also get to catch up with fellow friends. So, be sure to put this family-friendly restaurant, Garden Cafe, in your next dinner buffet list!
