McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017 @ McDonald's Juru, Penang

Henry Tan | 5:38 PM | |
McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017 returns with RM100,000 worth of prizes to be won this year! Thanks to the invitation from McDonald's Malaysia, I was given the chance to be one of the 3 judges again for the live audition at McDonald's Juru, Penang.

McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017

As usual, the event started with the registration of the selected contestants. FYI, to participate in the McDonald's Storytelling Contest, the participants need to upload a 60 seconds video of themselves telling a story on Instagram, hashtag #McDStorytelling2017 and complete the registration form online at www.mcdonalds.com.my/storytellingcontest/. Selected contestants will then be notified to attend the live audition.

While waiting for the live audition to start, the Ronald McDonald was there to entertain the contestants. This year, I was being assigned to judge for the 12 contestants' live audition together with another two invited judges.

Same old same old, the contestants were nervous right before the live audition starts. Thankfully, Ronald McDonald to the rescue! Rightfully as the Chief Happiness Officer of McDonald's, he was able to put a smile on their face right away. Bravo Ronald!

This year, McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017 offers bigger and better prizes up for grab which include the grand prize of 4 pax family trip to Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea; 1st prize of 4 pax family trip to Hong Kong Disneyland & Ocean Park; 2nd prize of 4 pax family trip to Shanghai Disney Resort; 3rd prize of 4 pax family trip to Thailand Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark as well as 11 consolation prizes worth RM2,000 each!

Similar to last year McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2016, the super friendly emcee Kevin, was there to host the live audition too. He explained some simple rules and regulations, as well as the 5-minute time limit given to each contestants to complete their storytelling. The time-keeper Joe would reminds the contestant by showing the signboard when there is one minute left.

Personally, I think the contestants are getting more and more competitive each year. All of the contestants certainly wowed the judges as well as the audiences with their stage presence. Almost all of the participants came well prepared with their self-made props to better illustrate their story. I am deeply impressed with their talent at such a young age! 👍👍👍

Some of the contestants amazed me with their stage presence, voice tone as well as their body language. They could be shy and quiet just a minute before the storytelling, but once they start, they do what they are best at, like they were born to be a superstar on stage! I was like witnessing the born of the future actors and actresses. 👏😂

After all the 12 contestants completed their 5-minutes storytelling, it was entertainment time for Ronald McDonald to do the storytelling together with all the participants.

All the 12 contestants were also given souvenirs as well as participation certificates. After the audition, the shortlisted contestants will then move on to the grand finals with other selected contestants from other states in Malaysia.

Overall, it was a successful event with joyful moment, especially the bonding time between the contestants and their parents. Nowadays, both the parents in a family would usually be busy with work, so McDonald's Storytelling Contest is a good chance for them to bond and understand each other better. The storytelling contest certainly is a great way to bring families together and help young kids showcase their talent.

Till then!
Stay tuned! ;)
