Swan Valley @ Western Australia

Henry Tan | 4:10 PM | |
Where to go in Swan Valley? What to do in Swan Valley? During the Day 2 of our Perth Trip, we went around Swan Valley after we visited Pick Your Own Strawberries. The places we visited in Swan Valley include Sandalford Winery, The House of Honey, Lancaster Winery, Mann Winery, Margaret River Chocolate Factory, Providore, Yahava KoffeeWorks, Mondo Nougat and Morish Nuts. No worry, they are all nearby to each other!

Sandalford Winery

We started off with Sandalford Winery, one of the oldest winery in Western Australia. Since it was on a Saturday during our visit, the place was filled with crowds. Thankfully we did not need to wait as Sandalford has enough manpower to introduce us their wines, ranging from white wine, rose wine to red wine. Since it was our first visit to winery, we were excited to try out all.

All the wine tasting in Sandalford Winery is free of charge, so feel free to enjoy. Unfortunately, bae and I don't really know how to appreciate their wines. We didn't buy any of them, but our friend bought a magic decanter, which allows the wine to breath faster.

Yahava KofeeWorks

To avoid getting drunk (you can see my red face already!), our second stop we dropped by Yahava KoffeeWorks. I am not sure if coffee is a local thing there, but surely Yahava KoffeeWorks is a top tourist destination there. As usual, it was quite crowded, but we still managed to try out their coffee.

The worker there introduced to us some of Yahava KoffeeWorks's coffee such as Black Gold, Kahava and Mokha. Personally, I like the Black Gold which grown in Papua New Guinea and it is as smooth as silk. The coffee releases a chocolatey sweetness, as well as a hint of berry, fruit and nuts. ๐Ÿ˜‹

We were in time for their short tour on the process of their coffee beans too. So if you are a coffee enthusiast, I supposed you will enjoy this very much. For me, I enjoy sniffing the fragrance of the roasting of coffee beans there. They surely know how to attract you to buy their coffee beans! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Lancaster Winery

After the coffee, we were back to wine again - Lancaster Winery. Lancaster Winery is quite unique given that they served cheese as pairing for their wines. I was already tipsy by then so I just drank a little. I think I ate their cheese more than I tasted their wine! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Opens daily 10am to 5pm

Margaret River Chocolate Factory

Where to go in Swan Valley? I supposed most would say Margaret River Chocolate Factory. It's huge, it's crowded and it's well known! We were wanting to buy their chocolate but since they got a branch in Perth City too so we waited for last few days of our trip. But somehow we forgotten! So lesson learnt, always buy whenever you want it! ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–

Providore

Providore located next to Margaret River Chocolate Factory. So we just walked over to visit. Providore selling quite a number of different things, but what caught our attention the most was the chocolate liqueur. Same as the winery, we got to taste the different types of chocolate liqueur.

We ended up buying the Hazelnut Chocolate Liqueur, while the other friend bought the Mint Chocolate Liqueur. I think it was the effect of visiting winery and chocolate factory earlier, which we already had the mixture of both in our stomach! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Opens daily from 9am to 5pm

The House of Honey

Next, we stopped by The House of Honey. As usual, we tried most of the honey there. I always thought they are all the same, but when you taste it side by side, you can actually feel the difference in taste and the sweet scent.

One of the must do thing like any other tourist is to try out their Honey Ice Cream. We got ourselves a scoop of Honey Comb Honey Ice Cream with Waffle Cone at $5. The Honey Ice Cream was very thick, smooth and sweet, just the way I like after traveling here and there under the hot sun.

Mondo Nougat & Morish Nuts

Next, we dropped by Mondo Nougat and Morish Nuts as both of them located side by side. I am not a big fan of nougat so I didn't pay much attention to it. I think most importantly, their samples only available upon request, so I don't really bother to try it out and hence not attracted to buy. The nuts at Morish Nuts is not cheap either so I came out empty handed.

Mann Winery

The last one we visited in Swan Valley was Mann Winery. According to our friend, Mann Winery is less touristy. Indeed, when we visited, there was not any other tourists. Mann Winery is a small family business and we were being welcomed by the founder himself, Dorham Mann.

The friendly founder introduced us to their only two limited sparkling wines, both created the traditional French way, hand-riddled and then aged in the bottle for two years before release. Both are elegant and delicious – a dry, rosรฉ-style made from cabernet sauvignon and a dry white made from cygne blanc.

The new vintages are released at the beginning of August each year, quantities are small and once all the wine’s sold, Dorham and Anthea close their doors until the following year. Fingers crossed you’re visiting the valley when the wine is flowing!

That's all for our tour in Swan Valley. We took around 6 hours to visit them all. So if you happen to visit Swan Valley, these places have to be in your visit list!

Stay tuned for the coming Perth posts!

Sticky Rice. As usual, the last few dishes are usually more fulfilling, but we were already full.
