Kampachi Penang After Renovation (2020) @ Hotel Equatorial Penang

Henry Tan | 4:03 PM |
At the end of 2019, Kampachi Japanese Restaurant at Hotel Equatorial Penang was closed temporarily for renovation. Kampachi reopened one week ago, so bae and I went to celebrate our anniversary there since both of us are big fan of Japanese food.

Undoubtedly after the renovation, Kampachi Penang looks a lot more spacious and comfy. The surrounding is brighter too compared to previously. Currently Kampachi only serving the Lunch Menu and the ala cart menu. Meanwhile, buffet will only be available starting February onwards, according to the F&B Team that I talked to over the phone.

Bae and I were quite hungry so we ordered quite a lot for ourselves. For Lunch Menu, all comes in set, which means it would be served together with Salad, Kobachi, Chawan Mushi, Miso Soup, Pickles & Assorted fruits. Bae was craving for Kare Don for some time, so as a loving boyfriend of course I would know what to do! 😁😁😁

Given that they just opened last week, some of the items in the new menu actually is still not available. I was craving for ramen, but unfortunately Shio Ramen isn't available yet during our visit. Which is why we ended up ordered Gyu Yanagawa. So you might want to double check first on the availability of your craving dish.

Japanese Katsu Kare Don - RM45
(Under Kampachi Executive Lunch, Lunch Menu)
Japanese Kare, one of the most popular and widely consumed dish and can be called as the national dish of Japan. The dish is prepared with chef's secret recipe presented with selection of either rice or udon. Served along with tori katsu or also called as chicken katsu and beni shoga (pickled red ginger).

Sushi Moriawase - RM78
(under Sushi/Sashimi Teishoku, Lunch Menu)
7 pieces of Nigiri Sushi and 1 Hosomaki Roll

Matcha Ice Cream complimentary from set

Gyu Yanagawa - RM50
(under Yanagawa Nabe, ala Carte Menu)
Stewed sliced beef with egg sauce

Overall, we love the newly renovated environment. The only thing that we hope that they can improved on is by double-check the order with the customers. I actually wanted to get Sashimi instead of Sushi given that I don't really take rice. So to avoid such miscommunication, I think it is essential for them to repeat back the order with customers. Despite the small incident, we are still looking forward to go back in February for their buffet.
