As a Malaysian, I find that none of my friends doesn't like Tom Yam, do you feel that way too? We tend to revisit the same place over and over again just for the unexplainable feeling towards Tom Yam. But I always wish to enjoy my Tom Yam at a cleaner and comfy environment where I won't ended up looks like a mess after eating the spicy Tom Yam. Guess what? My wish has been granted by De' Corner Kitchen! It is a cozy cafe selling authentic Thai Tom Yam, cool huh =D
De' Corner Kitchen is literally a restaurant at the corner of the shop lot opposite of Viva Food Court. If you are heading to Batu Ferringhi, De' Corner Kitchen will be at your left, before the pet shop Tinkerbell's Pet Kingdom.

The idea of their Tom Yam is just the way I like, which I can pick the ingredients and control the portion according to my own preference. You can see all their ingredients are placed neatly and in a cleaner fashion (food hygiene is important kay =P).
Variety of fresh ingredients |
More choices of noodles can be found in De' Corner Kitchen, namely vermicelli, fusilli, instant noodle and flat noodle. We have tried all of them but we personally fancy vermicelli more, the texture is springy and it is able to absorb the Tom Yam soup well.
Noodle options for Tom Yam |
After we done picking the ingredients and noodles, our customized Tom Yam was cooked by the chef. Well, if you happened to come with your someone who doesn't eat Tom Yam (although this is rare), don't worry, they can opt for clear soup =D

Here you are, the irresistible Tom Yam Kung at De' Corner Kitchen! Their Tom Yam recipe is authentically from Thailand. The Tom Yam soup was just so flavourful and smooth, the sweet-sour-spicy Tom Yam soup has woken up my taste buds! And yea, I finished up the whole big bowl (slurrrp!) =D.

I can't eat spicy, but I just couldn't resist the yummy Tom Yam. So this was what I need, big bottle of drinking water and a bucket of ice! I called them my lifesaver :)
De' Corner Kitchen has numerous types of beverages ranging from coffee, milkshake, juice, smoothies, soft drinks and beer. Let me start with their signature drink - De' Corner Classic! The foam was firm, I can't tell what actually it is (the boss claimed that it is secret ingredient O.O) but it somehow tastes good; with very low coffee percentage, you can drink it without having to worry about insomnia =D
Among all the drinks, Lemon & Lime Iced Blended was the most outstanding one! The sweet and sourish flavour was just so refreshing, perfect for hot days =D
All the beverages of De' Corner Kitchen are beautifully presented! They look so lovely aren't they? I personally think their iced blended and smoothies series were too creamy to my liking (yea, I told you... I'm moving to a healthier lifestyle =P)
The hot bitter espresso is topped with cold sweet vanilla cream, De' Corner Kitchen's Espresso Vanilla is the taste of bitter sweet, just like how people describe their memories... hot and cold like the relationships... hahahax
Please remember that their Tom Yam corner will only start taking order from 7 pm, unlike their western food, you can have it whenever the restaurant is open. De' Corner Kitchen has many kinds of their own style of western foods. With a fancy name Miss Nyonya, it is grilled chicken with Thai sweet sauce and Thai salad. The presentation of this dish is just as pretty as Miss Nyonya right? =D

Corner Classic is grilled chicken served with creamy lemongrass sauce, mashed potatoes and salad. The unique flavour of the creamy lemongrass sauce, it worked great with the chicken. De' Corner Kitchen 's mashed potatoes was so delectable, we all love it so much.
Corner Classic - RM 15.00 |
Black Pepper Jumbo is deep fried chicken served with black pepper sauce mashed potatoes and salad. The outer layer of chicken was so crunchy and the inside was juicy. However, I think the dish would be better if the outer layer of chicken was less thick.
Black Pepper Jumbo - RM 15.00 |
Mr. Bombay is grilled chicken with Bombay sauce, mashed potatoes and salad. From the name itself, you can tell this is an Indian style dish. The hot and spicy taste of the Bombay sauce works well with the tender chicken and also the mashed potatoes.
Mr. Bombay - RM 15.00 |
Unlike the regular Aglio Olio, with simple ingredients, De' Corner Kitchen's Spaghetti Aglio Olio is served with mushroom, onion, garlic, chicken ham, chicken slice and vegetables. The taste was different and it was actually quite spicy.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio - RM 15.00 |
Our heavy dinner was ended with The Harvest, it is actually a parfait dessert which made with ice-cream, banana slice, cornflakes, almond, Oreo and mix oats. As for the ice-cream, you are free to choose from either Vanilla, Chocolate, Peppermint or Yam flavour.
The Harvest - RM 12.90 |
Lastly, let me show you how was it actually like on that night! Everyone of us was so busy eating and nobody bothered to look at the camera (pity the cameraman Henry Darling =P), because the Tom Yam was too yummy!
Food Tasting =D |
I would say the combination of cafe with Tom Yam is a brilliant idea! The space of De' Corner Kitchen indoor dining area is limited, but we prefer their outdoor seating as it was windy and made us feel like eating in a spacious garden.
De' Corner Kitchen is a great place for Tom Yam lovers! Besides, they offer plenty of western foods and beverages choices, so even if you don't feel like eating, you could still just have a drink and chill there with your friends! =D
