Hello people! I'm back with a very authentic Thai restaurant - Patsa Thai Thai Shop! It is located at Jalan Dato Keramat, one of the busiest road in Penang. Patsa Thai Thai specialized in Thai boat noodle, which is quite a hit recently with some different brands of boat noodle appearing mainly in KL and Penang. But guess what, this was my first time trying boat noodle! (Yep, I didn't get to try during my trip to Bangkok)

Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Next to Chee Seng Brothers |
According to the boss, the shop is named after his wife, Patsa from Thailand. And I supposed Thai Thai is coming from the Chinese word - "太太", which means wife. What a loving husband to name the shop after his wife right! If i ever open a laundry shop, I would named it "Dolyn Dhoby"! #ifyouknowwhatimean LOL
Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Just a stone's throw away from GAMA & Komtar |
To be safe, you could park your car at the open car park behind Gama at Jalan Tongkah. The fees would be charged hourly. (Roughly less than 2 hours for RM1.80) Refer to the following map for the car park and location of the shop.

Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Papaya Salty Egg Salad (RM20) |
More commonly known as Som Tam in Thai, whereby it is consists of shredded unripe papaya. For the Papaya Salty Egg Salad in Patsa Thai Thai Shop, you could choose the level of spiciness by telling the boss from a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the hottest. We tried level 3, but I was already sweating like a pig! Besides, you could choose your Som Tam to be truly authentic with the addition of Fish Sauce as it tends to have a strong aroma that we might not be able to accept. With a little bit of each, a mouthful of appetizing opener could help to kick start your meal!

Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Matum Water (RM2) |
The MUST-TRY drink in Patsa Thai Thai Shop would be their home-made Matum Water. This is another authentic Thai drink that made by hours of boiling the Matum, or known as dried bael fruit, then added with pandan to add on the aroma. You would feel weird on the first sip, which you could see from Jennifer's reaction! But after that it was quite acceptable, afterall it is considered as a health drink in Thailand.

Patsa Thai Thai Shop - 12 Boat Noodle - GODLIKE! |
Patsa Thai Thai mainly serves boat noodle which can be catogorized into 3 types of different noodles, namely Thai Kuey Tiew, Thai Mee Hoon and Thai Glass Noodle. While the ingredients could have the option of chicken slice meat, chicken ball, chicken drumstick and Thai classic herbs. Any combination above could be served in both dry or soup. One thing that is fun would be their "Patsa Record Book", whereby you get a different title depending on the number of boat noodle you ate.
Patsa Record Book:
1 till 5 bowls = Astalavista Baby
6 till 10 bowls = Eating Spree
11 till 15 bowls = Godlike
16 till 20 bowls = Patsa Mama
Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Glass Noodle Soup (RM1.90) |
I get to try their glass noodle soup which is home-made as well according to the boss. Surprisingly, the glass noodle is different from Chinese transparent noodle. Patsa Thai Thai's glass noodle is yellow in color and made of flour and eggs. One thing that is noteworthy would be their soup and even meat ball, which they made it themselves using kampung chicken. Don't be surprised if you happened to chew on the soft bone as it was purposely added for extra texture.
Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Bee Hoon Dry (RM1.90) |
They claimed that Patsa Thai Thai Shop is a pork and beef free restaurant. But, since their ingredients are mostly from Thailand, they couldn't able to get JAKIM to certified them as halal shop. Anyhow, there are still many Thai Muslims that went to their shop, as they believe in them as the boss and his wife are very devoted to their religion.
Patsa Thai Thai Shop - Quite spacious and bright |
Patsa Thai Thai Shop is quite spacious and bright. You might want to sit under the air-cond especially if you order a high spicy level som tam! Overall, I think it is worth for a try, especially if you are looking for very authentic Thai boat noodle and drink.
