Hotel Jen, formerly known as Traders Hotel, will commence The Islander's new menu by mid of April 2015! Thanks to the invitation from Annie & Ellie, we were fortunate to be the first to try out their food. They really adhere to the values of Hotel Jen, whereby they care about what really matters to guests! We enjoyed our night there!

The Islander - Bruschetta (RM17nett) - Actual Portion |
Darling and I were starving after work, probably because we are used to take heavy dinner for weeks in a row thanks to all the recent food reviews. It's great that they served Bruschetta as starter to fill our stomach. The Islander's Bruschetta looks simple with red and yellow cherry tomatoes on top, but it is delightful right! A crispy bite on the Bruschetta released the aroma of olive oil and the sweetness of cherry tomatoes. I always prefer tomatoes that are not sour, spot-on!
The Islander - Arugula Salad (RM16nett) - Actual Portion |
The Islander - Arugula Salad (RM16nett) |
We wanted to be healthier (or I should say less guilty) by having some greens before proceed to heavy meals, so we tried the Arugula Salad as another starter as well. Arugula or usually known as rocket salad is always my favorite for its rich nutrition which includes vitamins and anti-oxidants that may benefit health. The sweet and vinegary taste of honey sesame dressing matched very well with the salad as it could cover the pungent and bitter taste of Arugula.
The Islander - Grilled Burger (RM20nett) - Actual Portion |
The Islander - Grilled Burger (RM20nett) |
Finally, we started our main course with a Grilled Burger with Vegetarian Patty. WAIT, WHAT?! Vegetarian Patty? Yup, vegetarian patty that made of couscous, potatoes, fresh herbs and spices seasoned with chef's special seasoning. According to the chef, there's no garlic and onion too. So for those vegetarian, you should really try out this! Anyway, we love their fries too!
The Islander - Pan Fried Stuffed Aubergine (RM45nett) - Actual Portion |
The Islander - Pan Fried Stuffed Aubergine (RM45nett) |
The Islander's Pan Fried Stuffed Aubergine caught our attention with the aroma of their smoky tomato sauce. Aubergine or egg plant may not be liked by many people, but certainly not me! Eggplant lovers must not want to miss it, especially when it is stuffed with couscous, cheese and breadcrumb, then soaked in the smoked tomato sauce. Vegetarian could order this as well too! Ohya, since eggplant is rich of iron, girls should eat more to replace back what you lose every month!
The Islander - Chicken Rosmarino (RM53nett) - Actual Portion |
Chicken Rosmarino is one of the best that I love the most in The Islander. Apart from the crispy boneless spring chicken, the balsamic pepper jus makes it very appetizing! The chef shared with us that the spring chicken is marinated with rosemary oil and balsamic vinegar, which could help to tenderize the chicken. Guess what, the Chicken Rosmarino was really tender and yet maintaining the juiciness. How thoughtful they are as it is super convenient for us to savor on the de-boned chicken! We both love it very much and will definitely go back again for more!
The Islander - Baked Trapia (RM48nett) - Actual Portion |
The Islander - Baked Trapia (RM48nett) |
Baked Trapia is served with fresh herbs, tomato coulis, olives and capers add the twist and make the dish flavorful. Well, for your information, the fish is a sustainable-sourced fish, which means that they will never extinct. (good for the mother earth huh?) Unfortunately, it isn't the liking of darling as she's afraid of fish, especially when they served it with the full body, head to tail of the fish. (What a weirdo! =p)
The Islander - Lamb Osso Buco (RM58nett) - Actual Portion |
The Islander - Lamb Osso Buco (RM58nett) |
They said "Save the best for last!" and Hotel Jen certainly did that for their main course! Both of us agreed that this has to be the best main course that we love the most. Lamb Osso Buco consists of the lamb shanks that braised with vegetables, white wine and broth. Chef Siva told us that each 400g of lamb shank is marinated with rosemary and other herbs so that it is not gamy. Lamb Osso Buco was braised long enough that the meat falling off the bone easily, tender yet melt-in-your-mouth texture. Pairing with their homemade mashed potato, Lamb Osso Buco tastes heavenly good! We would definitely recommend on this!
The Islander - Tiramisu Pancake (RM20nett) - Actual Portion |
Every complete good meal must ends with a dessert. We ended our full course with two! Starting with the Tiramisu Pancake, which is uniquely put together using sponge pancake, espresso, mascarpone, egg and cream with a twist of espresso butterscotch sauce. Unlike the use of typical ladyfinger, sponge pancake makes the Tiramisu more soft and fluffy yet not too thick in size. This dessert certainly "lift me up" after all the heavy meals! Another MUST-TRY to add into your list!
The Islander - Jen's Signature (RM18nett) - Actual Portion |
Your visit to Hotel Jen is not complete without trying Jen's Signature right? I bet you will never regret trying it either! Jen's Signature is actually like a mud pie that made of ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce. Be it the sugar-rush effect or what, we were clearly thrilled by the richness of the chocolate and the firm and creamy texture of the ice cream. Totally not "jelak" at all even until you finish up! I could only say that the dessert totally end our night on a high note.
The Islander - Chef Sivasegaran (Executive Chef) |
Lastly, I would like to thank Chef Sivasegaran for his wonderful delicacies. He has been in the line for 30 over years and I fully respect him for his friendliness and humbleness. We were truly amazed by his magic touch especially on his specialized Italian cuisines. So now, you know what to order if you happen to Hotel Jen! ;)
Go try it! =D

Never heard of this hotel either. So many new hotels in Peang? All not cheap one, I'm sure.
