Most of the Penangites should heard about David Brown before, including myself, especially as an ex-tour guide, otherwise, Ms Chin (PTGA Chairlady) would chop off my head. LOL. David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terraces has recently changed new management under Mr. Hanson, hence, we get the chance to be invited to try out their new menu.
David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terraces @ Penang Hill
Entrance to David Brown's Restaurant |
To be honest, I have been to Penang Hill so many times with tourists, friends and even darling, but we never eat at David Brown's. Probably because it looks like very "ATAS", and in fact, they memang the "ATAS-est" in Penang! LOL
David Brown's Restaurant - Magnificent View |
Seeee! Very ATAS right? =D

David Brown's Restaurant |
The best thing about David Brown's Restaurant is the greenery surroundings that makes you calm and relax. With chilling weather, it is a best place to laze around on a fine weekend.
David Brown's Restaurant - Starter |
We started off with warm bread and soups, something to warm up our stomach before going into heavy meals! As usual, I prefer to dipped my bread into the soup, just like "Kiam Pia Uhn Kopi" (salted biscuit dipped into coffee). Hehe!
David Brown's Restaurant - Cream of Tomato (RM18) |
Cream of tomato is a bit sourish to my liking, but for girls like my darling, she likes it. Perhaps sourish soup is a good appetizer to kick start a meal.
David Brown's Restaurant - Mulligatawny Soup (RM20)
I'm an adventurous person, so soup like Mulligatawny is definitely a must try as it is quite rare to find in Penang. The name is originate from Tamil words, I find it difficult to pronounce as well. The special part of this soup is that it comes with a small plate of rice, lemon and Eu Chang (fried onion) to be added into the soup. A bit like diluted curry with lamb and bits of carrot, definitely my recommended Must-Try soup!
David Brown's Restaurant - Cream of Mushroom (RM18) |
I bet any warm soup in David Brown will taste a lot nicer due to the cooling environment. Cream of mushroom was not bad too, but I was still fascinated by Mulligatawny soup. So if you don't eat lamb, cream of mushroom is a safe bet.
David Brown's Restaurant - Waldorf Salad (RM15) |
Apple and celery that cuts into cubes, mixed with homemade mayonnaise dressing and topped with walnut. I never really like celery, so Waldorf Salad is not my kind of thing. But with apple, celery and walnut, you can tell that this is a crunchy and juicy salad!
David Brown's Restaurant - Garden Salad (RM15) |
Typical Garden Salad that comes with assorted garden green such as the rocket salad and red onion. Sesame sauce dressing is always the bomb that makes the whole salad appetizing.
David Brown's Restaurant - Caesar Salad (RM18) |
Caesar Salad is another everyone's favorite salad. Romaine lettuce, ham strips and bread crouton topped with fine shredded cheese and homemade Caesar dressing. Ham strips and fine shredded cheese added extra flavor of saltiness to the salad.
David Brown's Restaurant - Smoked Salmon Salad (RM22) |
Here comes my recommended Must-Try salad - Smoked Salmon Salad! Who doesn't like smoked salmon right? I like it because of the combination of spiciness from the onion, sourness from the lemon juice and pickles, sweetness of salad and as well as saltiness from the smoked salmon! YUMMYY!!!
David Brown's Restaurant - Pan Grilled Seafood Combo (RM108) |
If you are a seafood lover like me, Pan Grilled Seafood Combo is a good option! It consists of big prawns, greenshell mussels, grilled salmon fish, squid and scallop served with garlic cheesy sauce and potatoes wedges. I like the pan grilled scallop the most as not many combo in other restaurant would comes with it.
David Brown's Restaurant - Grilled Seabass Fillet (RM58) |
Grilled Seabass Fillet was done well with the crispy skin and the juicy fillet, served with broccoli, carrot and French fries.
David Brown's Restaurant - David Brown's Classic Chicken Chop (RM32) |
David Brown's Restaurant - Roast Rack of Lamb (RM68) |
Coming up all the way to the David Brown's on Penang Hill Top, I would definitely go for this Roast Rack of Lamb! Tender New Zealand lamb rack soaked with homemade signature marinade and roasted to perfection. Serves with mint sauce and red currant jelly as well as mixed vegetable as side dishes. The interior of lamb meat is still pinkish, just barely firm and crusty but juicy and tender at the same time with a delicious meaty flavor! 100% Recommended Must-Try!
David Brown's Restaurant - Cottage Pie (RM38) |
David Brown's Restaurant - Napoleon Cake (Mother's Day Special) |
Overall, under the new management, David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terraces food has improved a lot. Even though the price is not cheap, but once in a blue moon especially for special occasions, it would be a perfect choice!
