Auction Rooms Cafe 1st Anniversary Promotion
Auction Rooms Cafe strategically located at Jalan Sungai Ujong, which is just within walking distance from KOMTAR Penang. Not to worry about the carpark as you may park inside Hotel Kimberley since they are under the same management.
Auction Rooms Cafe is one of the few sumptuously decorated cafe in Penang, it's like Winter Warmers kind of relax feeling (except without the flowery table mat) with a lot of lovely antiques and collectibles. The hanging light bulbs make the ambiance sweet and cozy.
Baby and I went there for their set lunch as it is selling at RM18 nett per set only! Personally, I felt that it is quite worth as it comes with drink as well. There are 7 different sets to choose from, we had Chicken Kebab with Iced Lemon Tea and Fish Fingers with Iced Peach Tea.
We started with Fish Fingers which serves with fries, salad and tartar sauce. The fried breaded fish was above par, tender flaky fish on the inside, coated with crispy breadcrumbs on the outside. Tartar sauce was done beautifully as it was slightly green (probably with more chopped parsley), definitely gives the extra minty kicks to keep you going.
Another set lunch that we had was Chicken Kebab that comes with honey yogurt masala sauce and mix salads. Good meat choice as Auction Rooms Cafe uses chicken thighs and marinated in a tangy Middle Eastern-style. Cherry tomatoes, all 3 colors of bell peppers and sweet onions were threaded interspersedly on skewers which compliment well with the flavors of the marinated cubed chicken.
Later on, we tried Auction Rooms Cafe's afternoon tea - Bird Nest Pandora Box. They start serving afternoon tea from 2pm to 5pm, which comes a bird nest drink, selling at RM128 (Now RM118 only!). Unlike the typical English afternoon tea with the three-tiered curate stand, Auction Rooms Cafe serves their afternoon tea in a elegant black box with a drawer at the bottom.
Generally, we would always start with sandwiches and savories, then follow by scones and bread, then only proceed to sweet, trifle and pudding. Yes, always end with the sweet ones. So for the bottom drawer, we had Chicken Pie, Skagenrora in Baguette, Salmon Tartar in Baguette, Anchovies Sambal Bread and then Scones with Raspberry Jam & Cream. The Pandora Box was localized with the added Malaysian style of Anchovies Sambal (Sambal Ikan Bilis).
Meanwhile, the top layer consists of all the sweet treats such as Blueberry Cheese Tart, Chocolate Brownies, Banana Cake Slice, Ginger Bread and Watermelon Gazpacho. Surprisingly that ginger bread was still there even though Christmas is over now. Perhaps they should add in Chinese New Year biscuit then. 😁
Instead of any hot tea for the afternoon tea, Auction Rooms Cafe replaced with Bird Nest drink. To get the best out of the bird nest, simplest way possible of stewing the bird nest is to add with two halves of a red date to give a little sweetness to it. Generous solid-chunks of bird nest can still be visible in the cup, definitely suitable for girls as it could maintain youthfulness and enhance the skin complexion!
If you go with friends and order 2 sets of the afternoon tea, you will get a FREE pasta at your choice too. We had their Korean to Italia pasta which consists of Fettuccini pasta, Kimchi and Shimeji mushrooms. I am not a big fan of Kimchi as it can be quite salty and spicy sometimes if not handled well, however I have to say that Auction Rooms Cafe's Kimchi pasta did impressed me a lot.
The amount of sliced-kimchi used was just nice to keep the Fettuccini pasta moist and appetizing. Thin strips of seaweed, black and white sesame were sprinkled all over the pasta to give a tempting food presentation. The texture between Shimeji mushroom and pasta make it more delectable! This is certainly the best dish that I like the most that night.
Auction Rooms Cafe provides free WiFi and even power socket, which would be a great option for people like me who need a temporary charging, be it for phone or laptop. Environment is calm and relaxing too, so I reckon it would be a good place if you need time alone to do your work efficiently (especially like writing blog 😂).
