Vangohh Eminent Hotel And Spa Grand Opening

Henry Tan | 7:54 AM | | | | 18 Comments so far
Vangohh Eminent Hotel & Spa is officially opened now in Bukit Mertajam, Penang! Bae and I got the opportunity to be invited to their grand opening dinner on 7th December 2018.

Vangohh Eminent Hotel & Spa Grand Opening

Vangohh Eminent is a luxury five star hotel and spa inspired by art, lifestyle and romance, offers both locals and tourists an inspired place to stay while enjoying enjoying the tranquility and fantastic view of the Bukit Mertajam Hill.

It was on a rainy Friday evening that bae and I drove all the way from Penang island to Bukit Mertajam, which took us about 2 hours journey thanks to the busy traffic after work. Thankfully there was a hotel transit car to fetch us from outdoor carpark directly to the hotel lobby.

The event started with opening performance, then followed with opening speech by the founder of Vangohh Eminent, Dato Seri Goh Choon Kim, as well as the opening ceremony officiated by our Penang chief minister, Chow Kon Yeow. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Personally, I think one of the highlight of the day has to be the speech by Dato Seri where he expressed his gratitude to his wife for supporting him throughout the years and then followed by a kiss. Soooo sweeeet! 😍😍😍

Overall, Vangohh Eminent Hotel & Spa is really super duper grand, bae and I were absolutely amazed by their impressive interior designs, even though we just get to see the lobby and the escalator towards their grand hall since we were rushing to the dinner. But we definitely looking forward to check out their 5 stars rooms and facilities soon!

Have you been there? What do you think?

Penang Food & Travel 1st Anniversary Celebration @ Occupy Beach Street Penang

Henry Tan | 1:55 PM | | | 4 Comments so far
Penang Food & Travel recently celebrated their 1st Anniversary at Occupy Beach Street, Penang. Thanks to Epril, the Editor-in-Chief of Penang Food & Travel, baby and I were being invited to attend.

The event started early in the morning with various performances such as Children Dancing Performance by Zero Fitness Studio, welcoming speech by the creator of Penang Food & Travel, Singing Performance by Joel Teh, as well as band performance by Chakora and Jester.

In the meantime, there were many booths along Beach Street showcasing and promoting their businesses. One of the good way Penang Design Village uses to attract crowds was to place a Basketball Arcade Machine, where we filled up a survey form with our contact in order to play the game and stand a chance to win some prizes.

To reward the attendees, Penang Food & Travel also held two lucky draw sessions with attractive prizes worth more than RM20,000. The prizes include hotel stays, buffet vouchers and some merchandise.

There was also Children Coloring Contest where we saw all the kids were concentrating in painting in order to stand a chance to win some amazing prices. The parents were also accompanying aside, such a good opportunity for parents to spend time with their kids.

International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) was there for fund raising and pet adoption too. It was my first time to come across IAPWA, one of the UK based animal NGOs, where they believe in education and working with the governing authorities to achieve long term change and better protection for the animals. Currently, IAPWA is in collaboration with the local council MBPP to trap, neuter and release strays with the aim to reduce homeless dogs population. πŸ‘

Many booths were there but baby and I only had our eyes on Merry Me for their ice cream. They were all delicious but we ended up choosing Dragon Fruit Sorbet. Baby and I never been to Occupy Beach Street, but we are glad that we went and enjoyed ourselves there until the event ended at noon where the sun was scorching hot and the crowds start to flee.

Lastly.... Happy Anniversary to Penang Food & Travel!

Till then. ;)

McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017 @ McDonald's Juru, Penang

Henry Tan | 5:38 PM | | 57 Comments so far
McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017 returns with RM100,000 worth of prizes to be won this year! Thanks to the invitation from McDonald's Malaysia, I was given the chance to be one of the 3 judges again for the live audition at McDonald's Juru, Penang.

McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017

As usual, the event started with the registration of the selected contestants. FYI, to participate in the McDonald's Storytelling Contest, the participants need to upload a 60 seconds video of themselves telling a story on Instagram, hashtag #McDStorytelling2017 and complete the registration form online at www.mcdonalds.com.my/storytellingcontest/. Selected contestants will then be notified to attend the live audition.

While waiting for the live audition to start, the Ronald McDonald was there to entertain the contestants. This year, I was being assigned to judge for the 12 contestants' live audition together with another two invited judges.

Same old same old, the contestants were nervous right before the live audition starts. Thankfully, Ronald McDonald to the rescue! Rightfully as the Chief Happiness Officer of McDonald's, he was able to put a smile on their face right away. Bravo Ronald!

This year, McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2017 offers bigger and better prizes up for grab which include the grand prize of 4 pax family trip to Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea; 1st prize of 4 pax family trip to Hong Kong Disneyland & Ocean Park; 2nd prize of 4 pax family trip to Shanghai Disney Resort; 3rd prize of 4 pax family trip to Thailand Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark as well as 11 consolation prizes worth RM2,000 each!

Similar to last year McDonald's Storytelling Contest 2016, the super friendly emcee Kevin, was there to host the live audition too. He explained some simple rules and regulations, as well as the 5-minute time limit given to each contestants to complete their storytelling. The time-keeper Joe would reminds the contestant by showing the signboard when there is one minute left.

Personally, I think the contestants are getting more and more competitive each year. All of the contestants certainly wowed the judges as well as the audiences with their stage presence. Almost all of the participants came well prepared with their self-made props to better illustrate their story. I am deeply impressed with their talent at such a young age! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Some of the contestants amazed me with their stage presence, voice tone as well as their body language. They could be shy and quiet just a minute before the storytelling, but once they start, they do what they are best at, like they were born to be a superstar on stage! I was like witnessing the born of the future actors and actresses. πŸ‘πŸ˜‚

After all the 12 contestants completed their 5-minutes storytelling, it was entertainment time for Ronald McDonald to do the storytelling together with all the participants.

All the 12 contestants were also given souvenirs as well as participation certificates. After the audition, the shortlisted contestants will then move on to the grand finals with other selected contestants from other states in Malaysia.

Overall, it was a successful event with joyful moment, especially the bonding time between the contestants and their parents. Nowadays, both the parents in a family would usually be busy with work, so McDonald's Storytelling Contest is a good chance for them to bond and understand each other better. The storytelling contest certainly is a great way to bring families together and help young kids showcase their talent.

Till then!
Stay tuned! ;)

Healthy Delicious Dishes with US Potatoes

Henry Tan | 3:32 PM | | | 1 Comment so far
Thanks to the invitation from US Potatoes, we attended the exclusive cooking demonstration of "Healthy Delicious Dishes with US Potatoes" which was held in Wembley Hotel Penang last weekend.

Healthy Delicious Dishes with US Potatoes

US Potatoes is the US national potato research and marketing organization which based in Denver, Colorado. It represents more than 2,500 potato growers and handlers across the country and to promote the benefits of eating potatoes. As the largest vegetable commodity board, US Potatoes is proud to be recognized as an innovator in the produce industry.

The event started off with the introduction to US Potatoes by Mr. Richard Liew, the Trade Promotions Director of US Potatoes. Thanks to Richard, we learned to differentiate all the various type of potatoes such as russet potatoes, yellow potatoes, red potatoes, white potatoes, purple blue potatoes, fingerling potatoes and even the petite potatoes.

After that, the dietitian, Ms Khoo An Jo, shared with us on "Good Carbs - Fact of a Healthy Plate". She started off by debunking all the myths of carbs and then taught us on the new concept of healthy plate proportion - #sukusukuseparuh or #quarterquarterhalf. Which means, whatever we learnt about the food pyramid back in the days is no longer appropriate!

Lastly, the cooking demonstration by Chef Audee Cheah, the President of Penang Chef Association. All of us were waiting eagerly to try out the international award winning chef's dishes namely, US Potatoes and Prawn Kerabu, Curry Chicken Stuffed US Potatoes,  Kimchi Seaweed US Lattice Cut Fries and Chili Flavored US Potato Wedges in Lettuce Cups.

Each of us were given the souvenir book with 4 recipes attached. 2 of them were using fresh US potatoes while the other 2 were using frozen US Potatoes. A few fresh US Potatoes were given to us as well to try out on the recipe our own. Since we got russet potatoes, so I made mashed potatoes as a side dish instead of following the recipe given. (p/s: I didn't follow the #sukusukuseparuh too! πŸ˜‚)

These white to pale yellow flesh of russet potatoes makes heavenly mashed potatoes due to their light and fluffy texture after baked to perfection. Since it is a bit pale, I added finely chopped parsley and black pepper to give some color contrast. To make it even better, I mixed in diced Eryngi mushroom to give the soft meaty texture to the mashed potatoes. Yummmsss! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Overall, I think it was a great event for us to understand more about US Potatoes and most importantly, we will start using more US potatoes in our cooking! Afterall, a healthy plate of food is all about the right proportion - #sukusukuseparuh!

Till then! ;)
Happy food cooking!

Tiger STREATS Party @ Hin Bus Depot, Penang

Henry Tan | 6:18 PM | | | 3 Comments so far
Thanks to Tiger's invitation, baby and I spent a wonderful night at Tiger STREATS, a unique street food experience from Tiger Beer, which take its culinary delights on the road this March in both Penang & Johor. Penangites got the chance to sample numerous Malaysian creative street food mashups, all washed down with ice cold Tiger brews.

Tiger STREATS was being held at Hin Bus Depot, Penang, which is a popular place that is suitable for party. As usual, we were being welcomed by the pretty Tiger ambassadors that were posing at the entrance. Long legs with short skirts, that's definitely a good start for a great party night. 😁

The Tiger STREATS party started at 5pm until 11pm while admission is open to non-Muslims over the age of 18. Our tickets came together with a couple of FREE Tiger beer vouchers and food vouchers. These vouchers were being sold on the spot at the event itself too.

A total of 14 one-of-a-kind creative street food, from Curry Flavor Waffles, Cempedak Ice Cream to Kimchi Goreng, the options were more than enough to tantalize anyone's taste buds. We had some ribs, skewers, as well as the noodles. But nothing better than pairing those food with Tiger beers.

During the Tiger STREATS party night, we get to choose the original Tiger Beer, Tiger Radler and Tiger White. Of course, we tried all of them, and baby and I preferred Tiger Radler the most! Tiger Radler is actually Tiger Beer with extra freshness from the lemon juice and lower alcohol percentage. So if you are not to fond of alcohol, Tiger Radler would be a good choice!

On top of those delicious dishes to sample, Tiger STREATS also prepared some retro-inspired games, experiential activity as well as live band performance from great local artistes. We were having fun playing the Tikam game in order to exchange for small gifts. Barry and I also had some playful moment with the Ping Pong game except that we were using kitchen utensils as bat!

Tiger STREATS party received great response from the crowds, same like us, many enjoyed themselves at the party. We certainly look forward for this event to be held annually at different places all over Malaysia.

Till then. ;)
Happy partying!
